Joint Sponsor (Form I-864)

The Form I-864, Affidavit of Support, is a legally binding contract required for most family-based immigrants and some employment-based immigrants to show that they have adequate means of financial support and are unlikely to become a public charge in the United States.

When the primary sponsor's income and assets alone do not meet the Federal Poverty Guidelines, a Joint Sponsor may be required. A joint sponsor takes on the same legal and financial responsibilities as the primary sponsor.
